Quality Education

One of the main consequences of teenage pregnancy is school dropout: according to the study “Determinants of teenage pregnancy in Colombia”, carried out by Profamilia and Plan Foundation in 2015, for each adolescent who has had a pregnancy and continues to attend an educational institution, there are 9 who leave school before pregnancy; and for every adolescent who has had a pregnancy and has approved a year of higher education, there are 11 who have had a pregnancy and did not go to an educational institution. The children of the poorest quintiles, meanwhile, are less likely to attend school; and if they do attend school, they have a higher rate of failure and troubles of social insertion or learning.

In a World Bank study, it was concluded that each year of secondary education correlates with an 18% increase in the ability to earn income for girls in the future. Therefore, we urge the adolescents to finish their secondary education. On the other hand, we offer them different technical careers: Cuisine, Hotel and Tourism Services, and Beauty in Cartagena, and Administration Assistant and Marketing Assistant in Medellín.

By promoting our beneficiaries’ mobility in the education system, offering them quality higher education and providing them with complementary tools for overcoming poverty, we also have an impact on the future education of their children.

Since 2012, we have trained 1,831 teenage mothers in Cartagena; and since 2018, 120 in Medellín.

Our actions are oriented to goals 4.1, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, and 4.7 of the QUALITY EDUCATION Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
