Medellín

At the moment, we serve 534 teenage mothers and their children at our Medellín headquarters, thanks to the alliances developed with Cesde and Comfama. Of these: 222 in the process of labor inclusion.

We have 27 young people receiving monetary support through SENA quota with the following companies:

  • Grupo Reditos
  • BTG Pactual
  • Siemens

Our results:

  • In Colombia, in 2023, there were 81,735 births to teenage mothers, representing 16% of births in the country. (3,818 births to mothers between 10 and 14 years old and 77,917 to mothers between 15 and 19 years old).
  • 9,002 births to adolescent mothers occurred in Antioquia, that is, 15% of births in the department (452 births to mothers between 10 and 14 years old and 8,850 to mothers between 15 and 19 years old).
  • 2,040 births to teenage mothers occurred in Medellin, that is, 17% of births in the city (70 births to mothers between 10 and 14 years old and 1,970 to mothers between 15 and 19 years old).
  • If we analyze the 2022 teenage pregnancy in Colombia with the 2023 data, a significant decrease of 63,268 cases of teenage pregnancies is evidenced.
  • This decrease is distributed in 408 fewer cases in the group of mothers between 10 and 14 years old, and a decrease of 16,060 cases in the age range of 15 to 19 years old. However, this downward trend in teenage pregnancies is also reflected in a marked reduction in the birth rate of 12%.

Medellín

At this time, we serve 130 teenage mothers and their children at our headquarters in Medellín, thanks to alliances developed with the Mayor’s Office of Medellín and Comfama.

  • There were 56.4 births per 1,000 women between 15 and 19 years.
  • In 2018, 4,375 teenage pregnancies were reported, equivalent to 16% of the city’s total pregnancies.
  • 276 girls between the ages of 10 and 14 became pregnant in Medellín, which is considered child sexual abuse.
  • The communes with the highest incidence of teenage pregnancy are Popular, Manrique, Villa Hermosa and Javier.
  • In 2017, informality was 42.4%.
  • In 2017, 4,841 cases of domestic violence were reported.
  • There were 15,139 complaints of non-fatal injuries; and of these, 3,135 corresponded to maltreatment.
  • In 2018, 41 women were killed in Medellín. Of this number, 14 cases were due to gender violence.
  • 87% of the total victims of sexual abuse in Medellín, in 2018, were girls and adolescent women. Reports of child sexual abuse have increased by 8% in the last two years. In 2018, 2,154 were made.
